Tropical Wedding Themes

Usually the first thing that comes to mind when deciding on a tropical wedding theme is an exotic, romantic island far away, full of beautiful flowers, glistening ocean and wonderful, tropical fragrance. Tropical islands are definitely beautiful, no matter which one you choose, but a backyard or local beach can be just as beautiful with the right planning. In order to capture the feel of a tropical wedding in your own yard, you need to first create the setting and the mood. Try holding the ceremony at night and adorn your yard with tiki torches, beautiful orchid garlands and a couple enclosed fire pits to set the tone.

For the Bride: Wear a beautiful white strapless dress with your hair pulled up on one side with fragrant flowers and freshwater pearls as your jewelry choice. For the Groom: He should look the part of an exotic island local, with knee-length shorts or casual pants with a light and airy linen shirt, un-tucked. One simple white orchid placed in his pocket will finish the look fabulously! Generally no tux is required for a backyard wedding, or even a beach ceremony for that matter. Bridesmaids would look fabulous in light tropical colors, each one in a different color and done with a tropical feel.Give your bridesmaids beach wedding jewelry bridesmaids gifts. Groomsmen could sport a similar look to the groom but with colors to match the bridesmaids.

If the beach or a romantic island is more to your suiting, then plan on a wedding at sunset. This is a beautiful time of the day to capture all the elements of a tropical wedding theme. A beautiful white gown that is free-flowing from the hips down will capture just enough breeze to appear natural and romantic. The groom should match in something loose fitted and breezy as well. Both bride and groom would fit in nicely when deciding to go barefoot. There is nothing like feeling the warm, soft, sun-kissed sand beneath your feet along with a cool ocean breeze.

Flowers are essential for this style of wedding. Orchids, lilies and astromeria are fabulous for tropical themed weddings. Try adding a lot of white and fuchsia colored flowers to compliment the hues from the ocean and sunset sky. The bride’s bouquet will look terrific if done with fresh cut stems that are ribbon wrapped. For the bridesmaids, a trendy look is sea shells dangling from satin ribbon instead of traditional flower bouquets. They also double as wonderful gifts for the bridesmaids. Loose flowers and petals of many colors can be tossed around on the sand and a few natural cut flowers displayed throughout the ceremony, with ukulele music playing in the background.

The food will be fantastic if kept to the tropical theme, by adding skewers of teriyaki chicken and beef with pineapple and peppers to the menu. For the main entrée, charbroiled fish or chicken, with grilled vegetables and a rice side. A light cream parfait topped with fresh fruit for the dessert! The beverages available at the bar should stay to the theme. Decorate the bar in tiki attire with coconut shells filled with fruit garnishes, pineapple cut open and filled with pineapple chunks and lemon wedges. Have the bartender name a few selected cocktails after the Bride & Groom or even the in-laws!
