Cutting Wedding Costs

These days, couples are looking for ways to have a great wedding while keeping costs under control. A great way to do that is to make some of the things for your wedding yourself, or have friends and family help put. If you stop and think about it, there is probably someone you know who is a great cook, or has a flair for flowers, or an ear for music who could lend you their talents.

For the ambitious grandmother or other cook in the family, allow them to cater (or at least supplement the catering) of your reception. Depending on the number of guests, have a family member be responsible for any element of the reception that is comfortable for you.

This will not only help with cost, but if you have a special food that you want to have at your wedding, they can contribute to the special day with that one dish you just cannot get anywhere else. For me, it was my grandmother’s chicken salad. No caterer could have matched hers.

The ideas are limitless on what you can do yourself. Many brides and their grooms have had a complete do-it-yourself wedding. Pick out your strengths and work within them so it doesn’t turn into a stressful day, and have fun while you work on the magical day. Whether it’s flowers, food or fun that you are working on, make it an opportunity to share with your family before you start your new life together with your spouse.
