Relax – It’s Only Your Wedding!
Okay, your wedding is right around the corner…do you find yourself in a state of bridal bliss, or are you running around in a blind panic? If you chose the second, then it is time to find some ways to relax, so that you can enjoy your special day.
Remember that there is no way that you are going to please everyone and there are always going to be little mishaps somewhere along the way. Ease up on the self-criticism of yourself and the demands you are making on others.
You might find reading about some of the bloopers that have happened to other brides to be oddly reassuring. These little vignettes will also make you laugh, and laughter is one of the best tools you can use to keep yourself grounded and relaxed.
Take at least 1 hour a day to de-stress… Go for a walk, exercise, swing in a hammock, play a game of Frisbee in the park, or walk your dog. This just needs to be time to think of other things and let go of schedules and problems. Grooms-to-be can enjoy a round of golf, boating, or fishing. It’s okay to take time just to enjoy life and you need the down time to recharge.
Another great tool to keep cool is to practice deep breathing. This really works and can decrease your stress level in 10 seconds. When the gown won’t zip at a fitting, or you can’t find the passports, don’t let the jitters and nerves take over. Take deep breaths, count to 10 and remember that these are really “small potato problems”…think of your favorite joke and let that happy feeling take over.
A small inconvenience is only as large as you imagine it to be, so think tiny…..and you’ll figure out the right answer. Gowns can be altered, passports will be found and with the right amount of personal cool, your wedding will be as wonderful as you want it to be.
