The Customs of a Mexican Wedding

Mexican weddings are a bit the same with Western weddings since they also wear bridal gowns and bridal jewelry to make the bride beautiful. When it comes to their customs there may be some differences.

Because Mexicans are mostly Roman Catholics, their weddings follow a traditional Mass. And along the wedding ceremony they have customs such as the madrina de lazo and the madrina de arraz that has their own specific relevance to the ceremony itself.

The madrina de lazo is a white rope that symbolizes fertility. At a certain point in the ceremony, a bridesmaid and a groomsman will position this rope in a figure eight onto the bride and groom. Another pair of bridesmaid and groomsman will give the madrina de arras to the bride and groom. This madrina de arras is consisted of thirteen coins which symbolizes the twelve apostles and Jesus to show the sharing of finances between the new couple.

At the end of the ceremony and just like a Western wedding, they usually end it up with a kiss to show faithfulness to each other and the Lord.
