Add a Moroccan Flair to Your Reception
The Moroccan wedding reception is often a series of parties all strung together as one and the bride changes for each of these, but for most Americans using the Moroccan theme, the wedding, followed by the reception is the most frequent choice. The food for a Moroccan wedding includes mint tea, their national drink, couscous, fresh bread, fresh vegetables with olives, preserved lemons that have a hint of clove or cinnamon, and there are frequently various types of meat and chicken dishes served, like chicken with apricots. Often the caterers change tablecloths between courses, but this isn’t necessary for a Moroccan theme. Don’t forget to serve fresh fruit between the courses to cleanse the palette.
You can have traditional Moroccan music or hire a DJ. There is always song, laughter and dancing at a Moroccan wedding so make sure you hire them for the full reception, or hire two bands if necessary. Try some traditional music and dance after the party is in full swing.
The good news is that the bride of the Moroccan wedding gets the treatment of a princess at her wedding. Both she and the groom sit in “mida”, a carrying cradle made of silver and a padded seat. The guests carry the mida around amidst music, clapping, and joyous dancing. Then they settle into the bridal canopy where they greet people.
Whether you are looking to honor your Moroccan heritage, or are simply inspired by the customs of other countries, adding a touch of Morocco to your wedding is a great way to make it unique.
