Beat the Heat at Your Summer Wedding

Summer weddings are beautiful, but they can also be hot! In the event that you don’t have the ocean breeze at a beach wedding to provide some respite from high temperatures, you could:

Hand out fans that are personalized with the bride and groom’s names and the wedding date. These can be purchased in white or colorful, tropical inspired prints. These can be fun little toss away items or more elegant keepsakes that are also useful and practical. Another option is to provide everyone with a fan made of palm leaves. This is striking, quirky, and very summer oriented.

Provide guests with the little hand fan misters that are very inexpensive and fun to use. Even the bride can have one tucked away in her bouquet.

Stage larger outdoor fans so that they keep some air circulating. This will provide heat relief but does not interfere with the ceremony. You can rent these easily from many companies.

Keep everyone thinking those “cool thoughts” with decorating ideas that include ice sculptures or a champagne fountain. You can even have misters or sprayers that are attached to poles set in place to cool the air. These can be located just far enough away from the ceremony so that no one has their clothing damaged.

Keeping cloths cold and damp on a nearby table is easy to do in any setting. You can then hand these out to guests before the ceremony. There are cold packs that you can prepare beforehand that are colorful and decorative. Some brides have even used those instant “cold packs” that are available at almost any store. These can be squeezed in the hand to activate and will provide about an hour or more of cooling relief.

You do not have to make your guests wait for refreshments until after the ceremony in an outdoor setting. Have small cups with icy drinks ready as they arrive, or provide bottled water. You can simply provide ice water if you choose, but having a little hydration will help everyone stand up to the summer heat, especially during the day.

Consider renting trees and tropical green plants if you are in a setting that has little relief from the sun. Just looking at the greenery can be refreshing to many people and the shade they provide will feel great.

Large buckets or tubs of crushed ice that hold chilled fruit and drinks is another great heat-beating tip that is very practical.

Tents are a wonderful idea. You should have several small ones set up as well as one main one for guests who want to be comfortable while enjoying the ceremony.

Keep the menu light and cool; heavy foods should be avoided if the temperatures are at the higher end of the scale. Your guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
