Trends in Wedding Drinks
When planning your wedding, you will want to give some thought to planning an interesting selection of drinks. Beach weddings and other outdoor summer affairs naturally lend themselves to the fruity concoctions that will bring the tropical feel to your event. Hurricanes, Sex on the Beach, and Mojitos are all sweet and fruity drinks that work fantastically at an outdoor bar. Garnished with oranges and cherries, as well as the tropical umbrella, these great choices will be a real hit. Work with your bartender to find other drink mixes that will be easy to incorporate into your budget, letting him or her know your general tastes.
If your wedding is going to be a more formal affair, your guest will appreciate more formal drinks. Think martinis and after dinner drinks. You can incorporate the “something old, something new….” into your drink selections by having a variety of martinis that compliment the different aspects of what the bride should have. Provide a drink menu with the “Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue” choices.
The old can be a classic martini, and the new a more exotic concoction (such as a French martini, made with Chambord and pineapple juice). The borrowed can be an Apple or Chocolate martini, and the blue has a few choices, with the blue curacao offering the unique color. Guests will be excited with the choices of a “martini bar” – if you know your guests like these kind of drinks.
For the glassware, make sure to match the theme of your wedding. Old fashioned weddings such as Victorian weddings, call for heavy and formal glassware. The modern wedding will do well with more streamlined glasses, and the outdoor wedding calls for classic glassware. Never, ever use disposable glasses for alcohol! They tip too easily and alcohol is an expensive drink to replace. Rent the appropriate glassware, or buy in bulk from a supply store.
How do you let your guests know what drink choices are? With a tasteful drink menu, you can list the beverages. Either have them on the menu place card if you are having a formal sit down menu, or you can have a list at the bar posted. This saves your guests from guessing and makes it easier for the bartender to get drinks quickly. Search for some great ideas on how to present your drink menus.
There are so many ways to serve more than drinks – make sure that you are serving up memories of a beautiful day for your guests. Having a good supply of drinks will help your guests be more relaxed and will keep the mood of your reception merry and light hearted – if you are worried about someone drinking a little too much, just put a limit on the number of drinks per guest. Once you have your drink menu, sit back, relax, and tip your glass up to your new marriage.
